Russo’s Restaurant Closes it’s Doors after 86 years!

Russo’s Restaurant a Wildwood Landmark closed its doors on Saturday October 11, 2008 after 86 years of being in business.  This was a big event and many locals were pouring out of the bar that night.  The place was so crowded the overflow was out on the sidewalks and in the street.  A good time was had by everyone who was there. It was bittersweet at the end of the night to see many old & new friends and know that a local hang-out was no longer going to be around.  We said goodby to the Russo Family and wished them well in all their future endeavors, however I am sure the party continued on well into the early morning hours.  For more on this story paste this link

Our family just spent a week in Wildwood and we were shocked to find Russo’s restaurant closed and a new restaurant in it’s place. We’ve been going to Russo’s every year on our vacations for many years. We will miss eating there, good restaurants are getting hard to find down there.

Russo’s was my favorite restaurant. I went there for 42 years every summer. This breaks my heart. It was the best authentic Italian restaurant in Wildwood. To the Family : I wish you all my best and thanks for all the wonderful years of service and great food.

I loved Russo’s. My family and I would always go here when we were on vacation. The food was excellent and the prices were very affordable. You never would walk out of Russo’s feeling hungry. This place will be sorely missed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Russo’s had THE BEST LASAGNA in all of New Jersey. (Piero’s in Union Beach is 2nd best). Got curious about Wildwood and looked up Russo’s and very sorry to read this news.

I am just devestated by the closing of Russo’s. As you can see from the date of my post I haven’t been to the shore in a while but Russo’s was the place to go for Italian food. My family used to go there all the time but I didn’t go because I always had somewhere else to be. Finally i went one night and imagine my surprise when I walked in the door and the hostess and the owner’s wife was one of my best friends in grade school! She recognized me right away and treated us like family which I’m sure they did everyone. I returned a couple of more times while I still lived in the area and Theresa was always glad to see me and feed us the BEST food. Even when I took my husband there he still raves about it to this day and he’s a chef and half Italian. RIP Russo’s you will be missed.
